Wallace State SID Russell Frye sent WCFFB a Battle for the State recap after Sunday’s twinbill at Southern Union: the Lady Lions shut out Calhoun 31–0, then beat Enterprise State 46–6, extending the overall winning streak to 34 and the conference streak to 28.

Against Calhoun, Emma Kile went 15-of-21 for 181 yards and four touchdowns; Mariah Ragland (26 yards), Taylor Kindred (8 and 49), and Destinee Ealy (10) caught the scores, and Kindred added a 52-yard interception return touchdown plus a sack. Wallace held Calhoun to 135 yards and kept the Warhawks scoreless on all nine possessions; Lily Walton led with seven flag pulls, and Maryland Williams had two sacks.

Against Enterprise, Wallace jumped ahead 26–0 in the first quarter and led 32–0 at half. Kile was 14-of-16 for 185 yards and seven touchdowns; Ealy led receivers (4 catches, 58 yards, two TDs), with Kindred, Telicia Ransom, Kyra Binder, Ragland, and Lily Waldrop also finding the end zone. Waldrop had three interceptions, Walton four flag pulls and a sack, and Wallace held Enterprise to 105 yards, leading 46–0 through three quarters before Enterprise’s only score. Across both games, Kile finished 29-of-37 for 366 yards and 11 touchdowns as Wallace outscored Calhoun and Enterprise 77–6.

Shelton State Bucs, Alabama Community College Conference

On the same Sunday slate, Shelton State beat Chattahoochee Valley 46–0 in Opelika with a note that Lanieya Page set a school record with four total touchdowns, then shut out previously undefeated Southern Union 39–0 — the Bucs handed the Bison first loss and lowest point total.

Sunday’s ACCC schedule delivered a full conference slate beyond the Wallace and Shelton headlines. Southern Union beat Snead 33–26 earlier in the day before falling 39–0 to Shelton; Lurleen B. Wallace beat Bishop State 33–18; Snead beat LBW 35–26; Calhoun beat Bishop 27–19; Snead blanked Bishop 12–0; and Calhoun blanked LBW 13–0.

Wallace State’s twin wins left the Lions undefeated in conference and overall (352 points for, 44 against) on the ACCC standings page. Wallace State and Shelton State have emerged as the premier teams in conference.

George Fox Bruins, Northwest Conference, NCAA Division III

George Fox Athletics announced a women’s flag football program beginning fall 2027, competing as a club for its first two seasons before transitioning to full NCAA Division III varsity status — positioning the Bruins as the first D-III varsity program in the Pacific Northwest. Athletic director Adam Puckett said the school is thrilled to give female student-athletes another venue to compete and grow as the program is built from the ground up.

The launch follows a summer of high school girls’ flag camps on campus that showed strong local demand; the Bruins plan a roster of about 30 athletes and 24-game seasons. George Fox cited California high school girls’ flag participation above 19,000 athletes and nearly 400 collegiate teams projected nationwide by spring 2027, with NFL investment and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in the backdrop.

University of Sioux Falls Cougars, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, NCAA Division II

Sioux Falls adds women’s flag; full varsity push in 2027–28

USF Athletics announced women’s flag football as its newest sponsored sport, expanding to 20 sports by 2027–28. The Cougars will use 2026–27 to build the program and aim to be fully competitive in spring 2027–28, with schedules expected to include regional jamborees and multi-team events as the NSIC and NCAA landscape takes shape. A national search for the inaugural head coach is underway (apply via USFCougars.com/CoachFlagFootball). Associate AD and SWA Emily DeGroot framed the add around national and local growth and more opportunities for young women in Cougar Athletics.

The release ties timing to the NCAA Emerging Sports pathway and a possible first National Collegiate championship in spring 2028, and notes Sioux Falls School District girls flag in 2026 with the Minnesota Vikings, plus Brandon Valley, Harrisburg, and O’Gorman pilots planned for fall 2027.

Thomas More Saints, Great Midwest Athletic Conference, NCAA Division II

Thomas More adds women’s flag for the 2027–28 year

Vice president and director of athletics Terry Connor announced women’s flag football at Thomas More, with competition beginning in the 2027–28 athletic year (spring 2028). It is the first sport added since the Saints completed the move to NCAA Division II in 2025 and brings women’s sports offerings to 16.

Connor said the program is about creating another chance for young women to develop as leaders and become part of the Thomas More community. The release cites more than 300 teams expected nationwide in 2026–27, Olympic inclusion in 2028, and the NCAA’s Emerging Sports for Women designation; the search for the first head coach is underway.

RCSJ Roadrunner Athletics appointed Chris Thomas as the first head coach of women’s flag football at the Gloucester campus, with competition set for Spring 2027 as the college’s 17th varsity sport. Thomas spent 11 seasons as Pitman High School football head coach, including rebuilding the program after a 2017 varsity pause, and also coached softball at Pitman.

Executive director of athletics Brian Rowan said the hire needed a program builder with South Jersey ties; Thomas said he loves starting from scratch and will emphasize relationships and player ownership. President Brenden Rickards welcomed Thomas as the Roadrunners prepare for Spring 2027.

Bradley Braves, Premier Club Bradley names Rob Penney Premier Club women’s flag coach Bradley University; Sept. 11, 2026.

Bradley named Rob Penney head coach of Premier Club women’s flag football. Penney, a Peoria educator finishing as Richwoods High School girls’ flag and girls’ wrestling head coach (with boys’ wrestling background), will lead one of five new women’s Premier Club sports as flag, ice hockey, and soccer launch in 2026–27 under director of Premier Club Sports Craig Dahlquist. Penney said he is excited to build the program from the ground floor as a Bradley Brave.
