HPU Women’s Flag Football Head Coach Kanda Korver Shares Vision for Program
Hawaii Pacific University became the first college in the islands to sponsor a women’s flag football program, with Kanda Korver named the inaugural head coach on July 6, 2026. In a recent Mana Wahine Wednesday feature, Korver discussed building the Sharks’ roster with athletes from across Hawai’i (OIA, ILH, and outer islands) as well as those with prior collegiate experience.

A former collegiate volleyball athlete and founder of Kore Vibration (serving more than 1,500 student-athletes), Korver previously assisted the KS-Kapālama girls flag football team. She described the HPU launch as “a huge community win” and credited university and athletic leadership for their courage in becoming the first. The program aims for at least 15 games against PacWest schools, post-high school leagues, and O’ahu club teams, while exploring international and mainland visitors to establish Hawai’i as a hub for the sport. Korver emphasized creating a championship culture rooted in transparency and adaptability as the team prepares for competition ahead of potential NCAA championship status in spring 2028.
